假如一棵樹在森林裡倒下而沒有人在附近聽見，

它有沒有發出聲音？

"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

這個問題的原型是愛爾蘭哲學家巴克萊（George Berkeley, 1685-1753）在《論人類知識的原則》（A Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge, 1710）一書中提到「存在即被感知」（to be is to be perceived）此概念。

根據巴克萊所言「存在即被感知」，那麼，一棵樹在森林深處倒下，若無人聽見樹木倒下的聲音，那麼樹木倒下所發出的聲音實是不存在的。因為無人感知（聽到）樹木倒下的聲音。
